I am broadly interested in the evolutionary ecology of host-pathogen interactions.

I am especially interested in questions at the interface of evolution, ecology, and epidemiology, such as how variable environments affect the evolution of virulence, and how host resistance and tolerance influence the epidemiology and evolution of disease. To address these questions, I carry out experiments with host-pathogen model systems. Most of this work has examined bacterial infections in DaphniaCurrently I am focusing on bacteria as hosts to their viral pathogens (bacteriophage) to better understand pathogen adaptation in heterogeneous environments.
